HISTORY OF FORT BEND BAPTIST ACADEMY

Fort Bend Baptist Academy began as Sugar Creek Baptist Church School (SCBCS) in September of 1987, under the leadership of the Mother´s Day Out program. The school consisted of one teacher and seven kindergarten students that year, but the following year an additional grade was offered in a combination kindergarten - first grade class with fourteen students.  At that time, the church voted to separate the school from the MDO program, and a School Committee was formed to act as the governing body.  Because of the growth of the school, it was decided at the end of the 1989-90 school year to expand the class offerings and to hire an individual to serve as Director of SCBCS.

Due to a lack of space for the school to continue expansion at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, God blessed the school with a move to the facilities of First Baptist Church of Sugar Land during the summer of 1992.  The school committee changed the name of the school, and it became a shared ministry of the two churches.  At the same time, FBBA became incorporated as an independent school in the state of Texas and became a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organization as defined by the IRS. As required, FBBA established a Board of Trustees to serve as the governing body of the school.

During the 1993-94 school year, the middle school began with the addition of seventh and eighth grade students. God continued to grow the school.  Because of the rapid growth, the school was divided into an elementary school (PK-Grade 5) and an upper school (Grades 6-9).  The upper school was moved to the West Campus Building of Sugar Creek Baptist Church.  A new elementary principal was hired, and the former FBBA principal assumed the roles of superintendent and upper school principal.  As the school continued to grow, a principal was hired for the middle school program. 

The Board of Trustees led a Capital Campaign for the construction of a high school facility and gym, and the building opened in January of 1999.  This allowed for the expansion of the high school program.  At the end of the 1999-2000 school year, the Board made the decision to add the position of superintendent for the school system, with three principals to administer the elementary, middle, and high schools.

Phase II planning and Capital Campaign began soon after the completion of the high school building, and construction began for the following new facilities on a 32-acre tract of school-owned land:

• Elementary building on Lakeview (opened in August, 2002)
• Softball Stadium (completed Winter, 2002)
• Baseball Stadium (completed Spring, 2003)
• Football and Soccer Practice Fields (completed Fall, 2002)

Phase III planning and funding began in 2007-2008.  The size of the campus was expanded to 35 acres with the acquisition of the Seven Oaks facility adjacent to the high school.

• Seven Oaks Campus and acreage acquired and renovated for office and classroom space (Summer/Fall 2008)
• Construction of Athletic Complex to include track, football stadium, bleachers, and concession stand (Fall 2009)

It is obvious that God has been at work over the 20+ year history of Fort Bend Baptist Academy.  It remains our desire to serve and honor Him in all that we do, making this ministry a strong Christian witness in the Fort Bend community.
